The Ebisu Diaries

Ebisu Fishing Rod. Nicknamed the "relic rod of Fishing," one must clear many hoops and hurdles to hold the best. To earn one, you will have to:

1. Purchase a copy of the Serpent Rumors for 95k Fishing GP.
2. Obtain Bhefhel Marlins, and turn them in for a chance at a Pirate's or Brigand's Chart.
3. Use the charts in part two to obtain Albatross and Penguin Rings.
4. Fish up Lik and Gugrusaurus using the rings in part three until you find an Opal Silk and Saber Shoot, respectively.
5. Trade both the Opal Silk and Saber Shoot to Irmilant in Rabao, and wait until the next conquest tally.

Alternatively, you can obtain special baits (Dwarf Pugils and Drill Calamary) instead of earning the Fishing rings above.















Note that both Lik and Gugrusaurus can cause line snaps or break one's Lu Shang's Fishing Rod outright, so if you are attempting to fish them, you will need around level 75 Woodworking skill to repair your Lu reliably. Be warned that both types of fish have a low bite rate, can cause fatigue quickly, and are greatly influenced by the moon phase and local weather.

Notes:
a) The Albatross Ring is a 100% drop if you win the Pirate's Chart battle, but the Brigand's Chart battle does not guarantee a ring even if you succeed.
b) Some players claim they can fish Lik and Gugrusuarus without a Penguin Ring, but this was not the case for me. You might need more than one set of rings if Zaldon, the fish gutter, is feeling especially mean.
c) This guide assumes that you own at least a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod; it would be very difficult to reel in the requisite fish without a Lu or Ebisu.
